Here’s the latest from our Department of Shameless Self-Promotion: My new book Uncle George and Me: Two Southern Families Confront a Shared Legacy of Slavery is now available in electronic format.
To get it loaded on your Kindle, just go to the Uncle George page on Amazon.com. At $5.99, it’s a big savings over the paperback price.
Uncle George and Me is the story of my slave-owning Virginia ancestors, their slaves, and those slaves’ descendants. At the book talks I’ve been doing this fall, the book has sparked some great deep conversations about confronting and overcoming slavery’s crippling legacy. Those talks will continue well into next year. For details, see the Events page of my website.
In other news, the good folks at The Progressive magazine have included Uncle George among their “Favorite Books of 2018,” calling it “an impressive work of history” and “a moving account of the possibilities of redemption and forgiveness.” This is the same outfit that published an online excerpt from the book in September.
All of my profits from sales of Uncle George are donated to the family scholarship fund for descendants of the Sizemore slaves.
Oh, one more shameless plug: If you like the book, consider posting a customer review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Best wishes and happy holidays.
