Many thanks to The Virginian-Pilot, the newspaper where I spent most of my career, for publishing this nifty excerpt from my new book Uncle George and Me.
That bit of the book spins the near-miraculous tale of my late “cousin” Charles Sizemore, who as a young man made a life-changing discovery about his past. Charles and I had many convivial meet-ups over breakfast or lunch near his home in Chesapeake as I researched the intertwined history of our families. As luck would have it, today (Sept. 9) is Charles’ birthday. He would have been 78.
The excerpt in the Pilot follows a well-attended launch party last week at Chop Suey Books in Richmond, where Uncle George Sizemore – a “handsome devil at 98,” in the words of one partygoer – was the star attraction.
There will be plenty more promotional events this fall, including a reading/discussion/signing for my Norfolk friends at the Muse Writers Center, 2200 Colonial Ave., Suite 3, on Oct. 13, 4-6 p.m.
I look forward to reading this book. My mother was born in Clarksville,Va in 1912.
