There’s now a podcast offering a sneak preview of my new book, Uncle George and Me: Two Southern Families Confront a Shared Legacy of Slavery.
My reading of an excerpt from the book was part of a “Writer’s Block” broadcast March 18 on the Norfolk public station WHRV, 89.5 FM.
The program is now available as a podcast at whrv.org/writersblock. My segment is near the end, at 43:27.
Uncle George and Me chronicles the story of how I discovered the long-buried history of my slaveowning Virginia ancestors and set out to connect with the descendants of those they enslaved. In microcosm, it’s the story of America’s original sin and the culture of racism it spawned.
The book is due out soon from Brandylane Publishers.
Just listened to your reading in the podcast, Bill. Well done and fascinating!
Thanks, Patrick! Book’s coming soon.
